Mexico - Telephone Information

Cellular phones are popular in Mexico. Fax machines are also very common.

Public phones in Mexico city are not so easy to find and when found almost all of them use a telephone debit card that can be bought in the Airport and places where it says LADATEL AQUI. 

To make long distance you can either do it by operator dialing 02 for national calls or 09 for international calls. You can use direct call using the prefix of 91 for national calls, 95 for calls to the USA and Canada and 98 for any other foreign country. 

The service 08 is a free of charge call and is an emergency service like the 911.

Services include advice for lost travellers, contacting Embassies or Consulates in emergencies, information on legal matters, help for travellers who believe goods or services purchased in Mexico are fraudulent, assistance to crime victims, travel advisories, etc.
