Oaxaca - Dining

Oaxacan cuisine is famous for its cheese, spicy sausages, tamales wrapped in banana leaves and a rainbow of moles, including black, yellow and red. It also includes exotic dishes such as fried grasshoppers and armadillo.

Oaxaca's bustling main plaza is lined with sidewalk cafes. Here you can breakfast on sweet rolls and hot chocolate, lunch on simple but tasty regional or continental dishes, and dine on tamales Oaxaque-os, Oaxacan-style tamales, Or simply enjoy the people-watching and quench your thirst. 

There are several excellent restaurants in the downtown area, including La Asuncion and El Naranjo, though none of these face or overlook the main square.
