TRANSPORTATION
There are many options to help you get around each island in The Bahamas, and to help you hop from island to island. But remember, when you take to the road, British rules apply, so please keep to the left. Visitors may use their home driver’s license for up to three months and may also apply for an international driver's license.
Pedestrians should remember to look right before crossing streets.
CHARTER AIR
Several charter carriers serve passengers flying into and around The Islands Of The Bahamas. Frequent flights are available to Nassau, Freeport, and cities throughout The Out Islands.
FERRY
Ferries are a common mode of transportation in The Bahamas for locals and travelers. The Fast Ferry service is designed to help you island hop between designated main islands, while local ferries serve as water taxis that take you and locals to and from neighboring cays of a main island.
Jitney service (bus service) is available on several of the major islands, such as Nassau/Paradise Island and Grand Bahama Island. Service is generally from early morning until about 7:00 p.m. Fares vary, depending on the route, and exact change is required.
MAIL BOATS
Inter-island mailboats depart from Nassau and run weekly roundtrip to/from all islands. The mailboats are a leisurely way to get around. One-way passage to just about anywhere costs around $35, ranging up to $140 for some round trips. Remember, these mailboats run on Bahamas time, so they're a great way to slow down to the steady rhythm of the islands.
RENTAL CAR
Rental cars, equipped for left-hand driving, are available in larger cities. Rental car facilities are often located at major hotels. Renting a car is convenient way for you and group of your friends or family to explore more the island on your own time.

Bicycles are available for rental at many of the most popular tourist centers. Renting a bike gives you the freedom to spin around town and the countryside, exploring the island at your own speed.

TAXI
To experience knowledgeable, professional Bahamian hospitality, look for the Bahamahost decal in the taxi cab window.
You can call a taxi or flag one down on the street. Taxi stands are also conveniently placed at most large hotels. Although metered rates vary by island, they are reasonable and are fixed by law.
TOURS
Surcharges often apply for more than two persons and extra luggage.
